About Chestnut Hill
Tucked away in the Northwest corner of Philadelphia,
Chestnut Hill is a popular neighborhood with many beautiful stone homes and a
charming main street. Chestnut Hill was
originally part of German Township, which served as a gateway between
Philadelphia and the nearby countryside. However, German Township became
incorporated into the city of Philadelphia in 1854 as a part of the Act of
Consolidation. Chestnut Hill welcomed the Chestnut Hill Railroad that same
year, creating an even easier commute to Center City.
Today, Chestnut Hill offers convenient access to Center City
and the surrounding areas via SEPTA regional rail and bus system. Despite its proximity to the city, Chestnut
Hill maintains a small-town feel with a variety of housing options, parks, and
friendly neighbors. The area tends to be affluent, with a median sales price of
single-family homes over $600,000.
Served by Philadelphia School District, Chestnut Hill high
school students attend Martin Luther King High School. However, a variety of
private school options exist including Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, The
Crefeld School, and nearby William Penn Charter, Germantown Friends, LaSalle
College High School, Saint Joseph’s
Preparatory, and Mount Saint Joseph Academy.
There’s never a shortage
of fun things to do in Chestnut Hill, including a variety of award-winning
restaurants, boutiques, and recreational activities. Please check back
regularly, as I update this blog with my favorite places and events in the
area!
